Biography

Chris Stapleton, born April 15,
1978 in Lexington, Kentucky, shattered records with the runaway success of his
debut solo album Traveller in 2015. Inspired by a road trip undertaken
by his late father, the album turned him into a huge star on the country scene
and won him crossover success. Adele covered his song “If I Hadn't Been in
Love”
and other tracks were picked up by George Strait (“Love's Gonna
Make It Alright”
), Kenny Chesney (“Never Wanted Nothing More”), Luke
Bryan (“Drink a Beer”) and Darius Rucker (“Come Back Song”). This
avalanche of success followed many years of hard work since his move from his
home in Kentucky to the center of country music in Nashville in 2001, taking
day jobs to pay the bills while he played in local clubs and tried to get a
record deal. In 2008 he formed The Steeldrivers, a bluegrass outfit that earned
Grammy nominations. Stapleton left the band in 2010 and formed Southern rock
band The Jompson Brothers with guitarist Greg McKee, bassist J.T. Cure and
drummer Brad McNamee. The group disbanded in 2013, he concentrated on his solo
career, got a deal with Mercury Records and although his first single “What
Are You Listening To?”
failed to make an impact, Traveller launched
his solo career. With the success of the single “Nobody to Blame”
Stapleton was suddenly on the fast train to superstardom. His long-awaited
second album From a Room: Volume 1 was released in May 2017, again
produced by Cobb, receiving a similarly ecstatic reception to Traveller.
The follow-up From a Room: Volume 2 was released in December 2017.

Starting Over followed in 2020.
