Biography

Camille Bazbaz, or simply Bazbaz (born in Suresnes in 1967), is a singular figure on the French chanson scene. Coming from alternative rock through the group Le Cri de la Mouche, he released his Dubadelik project in 1996, in a style of dub song that he was trying to impose in France. The failure was predictable, but constructive. The original author, composer and musician surprised audiences with his stage presence, and opened up new horizons with his film scores(Comme Elle Respire, 1997; Après Vous, 2003 and Hors de Prix, 2007). At the same time, he developed his solo career with the album Une Envie de Chien (2000), which saw him return to reggae mixed with French chanson, followed by Sur le Bout de la Langue (2004) and Le Bonheur Fantôme (2007), all of which feature carefully crafted lyrics. With his Bazbaz Orchestra, he collaborated with reggae singer Winston McAnuff on the album A Bang (2011). Striking a balance between his different aspirations in reggae, soul, blues and chanson, Camille Bazbaz asserts himself further on the conceptual album La Chose (2010), with its overtly sexual connotations, and then on Love Muzik (2013), the testimony of a passionate lover. The same theme covers the following album Bazbaz Café (2016), in which he sings "Roucoule" and "Un baiser", with the female duo Brigitte.
