Itzy are an all-female K-pop group, formed in Seoul, South Korea in 2019, consisting of members Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna, who had been former contestants on South Korean TV audition shows including K-pop Star and Sixteen. Having previously promoted highly successful K-pop girl groups including Wonder Girls (the first K-pop artist to appear on the US Billboard Hot 100) and Twice (the highest selling K-pop girl group of 2016), JYP announced the girls' debut in January 2019, and the following month, Itzy burst onto the scene with It'z Different, a two-track release which drew from a variety of EDM styles including future house, trap, and dubstep, containing the singles “Dalla Dalla” and “Want It?”. The songs' empowering messages helped the band break records for the fastest growing K-pop debut on video-sharing platforms, with the video for “Dalla Dalla” gaining over 14 million views in one day, alone. The single peaked at number 2 on the South Korean singles chart, winning them first place in episodes of Show! Music Core and the influential M Countdown. Preceded by the single “Icy,” which reached the top of the K-pop Hot 100, their first EP It'z Icy appeared in July 2019, reaching number 3. Following a tour throughout Asia and the United States, Itzy returned in 2020 with a second EP titled It’z Me, their first Number 1 in the domestic charts, repeating the feat in the same year with the EP Not Shy, which shot straight to the top of the charts in South Korea. In 2021, the girls successfully crossed over into the Japanese market with the EP What’z Itzy and releasing their long-awaited full-length album, Crazy in Love, which climbed to number 11 on the Billboard 200. On April 6, Itzy unveiled their debut Japanese single, "Voltage," dropping their fifth EP titled Checkmate, in July, featuring the catchy lead track "Sneakers". During this time, they also revealed plans for their inaugural world tour, which kicked off in Seoul on August 6 and 7 and on October 5, the group treated fans to their second Japanese single, "Blah Blah Blah," and first English single, "Boys Like You," releasing another two EPs, Cheshire and Kill My Doubt, between October and July the following year. Showing no signs of slowing down, Itzy released their first Japanese-language studio album, titled Ringo, in October 2023, climbed to number 5 on the Japanese Billboard charts, followed quickly by Born to Be, released in January 2024, which shot straight to Number 1 in Korea. On May 15, they released their third Japanese single titled "Algorhythm." On October 15, 2024, their third studio album, Gold, was released, featuring the singles "Gold" and "Imaginary Friend."
