American singer-songwriter Colton Dixon rose to fame after participating in the eleventh season of the reality show American Idol. In addition to his solo work, he is also part of the Christian rock band Messenger. Born on October 19, 1991, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, he first auditioned for American Idol in 2011 along with his sister Schyler, but none of them made it to the Top 24. Only a year later, a rendition of David Cook's "Permanent" earned him the chance to compete on the show, eventually becoming an audience favorite and placing seventh overall. In 2013, Colton Dixon released his studio debut A Messenger via Sparrow Records. The album debuted at Number 15 on the Billboard 200 and soared to the top of the US Christian and Gospel charts, selling 22,000 copies in its first week. Preceded by the single "More of You," his sophomore effort Anchor hit retail in 2014, followed by The Calm Before the Storm (2015), and Identity (2020). Following the release of his eponymous EP in 2020, Colton Dixon returned with the single "Build a Boat" (2022), which entered the US streaming charts at Number 98.
