Biography

Folk/pop singer and songwriter Brett Dennen was born in Oakdale, California on October 28, 1979. He was homeschooled and was able to explore his more creative side, teaching himself to play the guitar and other stringed instruments. Influenced by Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Tom Petty, and Van Morrison, Brett Dennen began composing his own songs. While attending college in Santa Cruz, California - where he majored in sociology and philosophy - he formed a jam band with friends. After graduating from college, he continued to live in Santa Cruz for a short time before moving to Los Angeles in order to pursue a career as a singer and songwriter. His self-titled debut album was released on an independent label in 2004. Signing with Dualtone Records, he released his second album, So Much More, in 2006. Earning praise from critics, music fans, and fellow musicians, his music was used in various television series including Parenthood. Brett Dennen released his Hope for the Hopeless album in 2008 and toured with singer/guitarist John Mayer. He collaborated with Jason Mraz on the song “Long Road to Forgiveness," which was released on the Survival International charity album Songs for Survival. Brett Dennen’s commercial profile continued to rise as he made appearances on television shows and played high-profile shows including playing at the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island. Further Brett Dennen albums included Loverboy (2011), Smoke and Mirrors (2013), and Por Favor (2016). His music could be heard in films such as According to Greta and more television series including About a Boy, and Wizards of Waverly Place. After releasing two EPs in 2018 - Let’s… and Here’s Looking at You Kid - he began working on material for his next album. In April 2021, Brett Dennen released the single “See the World”.
