Biography

Born in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, on June 13, 1986, Caitlyn Smith found success as a songwriter for other artists before launching a solo career as a country artist. Relocating to Nashville, Tennessee, she began writing songs on Music Row during her twenties, often collaborating with fellow songwriters like Don Schlitz and Megan Trainor. She co-wrote 2013's "You Can't Make Old Friends," a duet between Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, with Schlitz, then collaborated with Trainer on the song "Like I'm Gonna Lose You." Although they initially intended to give the song to Kelly Clarkson, Trainor chose to record it instead, sending the song to Number 8 on the Billboard 100 in 2015 and selling more than four million copies in America alone. Meanwhile, she set aside enough time to release her debut EP, Everything to You, in 2014, then signed with Monument Records for the release of her second EP, Starfire, in 2016. Starfire reached Number 18 on the Billboard Folk chart. Two years later, Smith released her debut album, also entitled Starfire, and reached Number 24 on the Folk chart, with the follow-up album Supernova arriving in 2020. Supernova's biggest single, "Long Time Coming," reached Number 35 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart, while the Old Dominion duet "I Can't" hit Number 37 on the Country Airplay chart one year later. In 2022, Caitlyn Smith returned with another EP, High, which featured the Top 60 country single "Downtown Baby."
