Biography

Il Volo is a trio of Italian opera singers - baritone Gianluca Ginoble and tenors Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto – that formed in Sanremo, Italy in 2009. Their 2010 self-titled debut album topped Billboard's Classical Albums Chart in 2011 and their catalog includes more number 1 albums including Il Volo Takes Flight: Live from the Detroit Opera House (2012), Buon Natale: The Christmas Album (2013), Grande Amore: International Version (2015), and Notte Magica: A Tribute to Three Tenors featuring Plácido Domingo (2016). In 2015, Il Volo won the Sanremo Music Festival, and they represented Italy in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, coming in third. Two of their albums peaked at number 2 (2012’s We Are Love and 2013’s We Are Love: Special Edition) and two went to number 3: Il Volo: Edicion en Espanol (2011) and Mas Que Amor (2013). Successful in their own country, Il Volo: Edicion en Espanol, Mas Que Amor, and Grande Amore all topped the Latin Pop Albums Chart. Il Volo has toured around the world with 2018 appearances at venues in Lodz in Poland, Budapest in Hungary, Bratislava in Slovakia, Liubljana in Slovenia and Zagreb in Croatia and in 2019 they took part in the Sanremo Festival, where they came in third place. The trio has continued to release albums including Ámame (2018), Musica (2019), Il Volo Sings Morricone (2021), and Ad Astra (2024).
