Biography

Kensington are a Dutch indie rock band which formed in Utrecht in 2005. Known for their anthemic indie sound, they have had three number one albums in the Netherlands and are one of the biggest bands the country has ever produced.

They first released recordings through the two-track single 'An Introduction To.' in 2006 and a self-titled EP the following year. Both releases received critical acclaim and led to numerous plays on Dutch radio and television stations. During their early years, they were backed by radio station 3FM's Serious Talent initiative which promoted local acts, leading to support slots with Razorlight and The Wombats.

Their debut album was recorded in The Nave studios in Leeds (partly-owned by Nick Baines of Kaiser Chiefs) and released in 2010. The record was well-received and led to a string of worldwide festival appearances and a number of sold-out shows in the Netherlands in bigger venues. This attracted the attention of Universal Music who signed the band on the strength of their growing fanbase and reputation; they have remained with them ever since seeing the band transform from cult indie heroes to selling out arenas within the space of a few years.

They have won numerous awards, particularly for their albums and as a live act. They have won ten 3FM Awards, including Best Album and Best Live Act on more than one occasion. In November 2019, after a three-year break, the band released their fifth album 'Time' which went straight to number one in the Dutch Albums Chart. This preceded their biggest headline shows to date, with three sold out nights at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam with a European tour following in 2020, furthering their reputation as a solid live act.
