Biography

A British indie-pop band from Leigh, Greater Manchester, The Lottery Winners formed in 2008. Vocalist Thom Rylance, guitarist Robert Lally, bassist Katie Lloyd, and drummer Alex Langford-Taylor formed the initial lineup, with Joe Singleton soon replacing Langford-Taylor on drums. After making their debut with The Art of Communication in 2011, The Lottery Winners spent the remainder of the 2010s releasing a string of standalone singles, with highlights including 2013's "Elizabeth," 2015's "I Know," and 2018's "That's Not Entertainment." In 2019, the group signed with the independent record label Modern Sky UK and began working on a second album, The Lottery Winners. The self-titled record was released in March 2020 and began a commercial hit, peaking at Number 23 in the UK. Several months later, The Lottery Winners released their second full-length album of 2020, Sounds of Isolation, which stalled at Number 61. One year later, the band worked with several artists on a series of collaborative singles like "Start Again" (featuring Frank Turner), "Rockstar" (featuring Nickelback), and "Bad Things" (featuring Sleeper). Released during the first two months of the year, those singles were followed in December 2021 by another full-length record, Something to Leave the House For, which climbed to Number 11 on the UK Official Albums chart. For the group's Start Again EP, also released in 2021, they enlisted the talents of Frank Turner for the title track and Britpop royalty Sleeper on the track "Bad Things," with vocals from the group's Louise Wener. Continuing in this collaborative spirit, the group teamed up with none other than Boy George for their 2023 single "Let Me Down." The song was included on their fifth studio LP Anxiety Replacement Therapy (2023), which also featured guest spots from Frank Turner and Shaun Ryder and gave the band their first UK top ten and number one album.
