Determined to make an enduring mark on hip-hop, Mississippi rapper and MC Justin Scott originally called himself Kritical before adopting the alias Big K.R.I.T., standing for 'King Remembered in Time'.
He played tuba in his school orchestra but, inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, he began rapping at the age of 12, going on to release well-received mixtapes and appearing as a guest artist on albums by Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa.
His mixtape 'K.R.I.T. Wuz Here' in 2010 garnered much attention, and he was signed to Def Jam Records before touring with Curren$y and Smoke DZA and opening for Wiz Khalifa. Another mixtape 'Return of 4Eva' proved to be another big step leading to his debut album 'Live from the Underground' in 2012 and he toured with Slim Thug. The album topped the Hip-Hop and R&B Charts and established K.R.I.T.'s reputation as one of the most potent new forces in rap.
His next album 'Cadillactica' (2014) took a slight change of direction, incorporating deeper issues into his lyrics. After splitting with the Def Jam label in 2016 he spread his wings further by collaborating with South Korean rapper BewhY on the single 'UNO' followed by 'Confetti'.
He made another big impact in 2017 with the release of his double album '4eva Is a Mighty Long Time' on his own Mighty Alumni label. He further showed his political passion appearing at the BET Hip-Hop Awards when he came on stage in police uniform.
In 2019, K.R.I.T. returned with his fourth studio album 'K.R.I.T. Iz Here'.
