Brian McKnight is an American R&B singer-songwriter, accomplished on several musical instruments, whose vocal range includes a strong falsetto. His recordings have earned many Grammy Award nominations without a win but his singles and albums have succeeded on a variety of Billboard Charts. He has hosted a radio show in Los Angeles and appeared on the American television programme 'Celebrity Apprentice'.

Born in Buffalo in the north of New York State, he sang in a church choir as a child and learned to play several instruments including piano and guitar. The success of his older brother, Claude McKnight III, with his group Take 6 encouraged him to make demo recordings and he made his debut in 1992 with an eponymous album that placed on the Billboard 200.

McKnight had considerable success with single releases including 'The Way Love Goes' (1992), which went to number eleven on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart and 'Love Is', with Vanessa Williams, which topped the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart in 1993 and reached number three on the Hot 100. 'Anytime' and 'The Only One for Me' topped the Adult R&B Chart in 1998 and other number ones on the chart included 'Back at One' (1999), 'Love of My Life' (2001) and 'What We Do Here' (2004). 'Crazy Love' (1995), 'Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda' (2003), 'Everytime You Go Away' (2005) and 'What I've Been Waiting For' (2009) all went to number three.

Hit albums include 'Back at One' (1999), 'Superhero' (2001) and 'U Turn', which all reached number seven on the Billboard 200 and 'More Than Words', which went to number seven on the Top R&B Albums Chart in 2013. A retrospective album titled 'An Evening With Brian McKnight' came out in 2016 and a studio recording, 'Genesis' in 2017.
