Ghanaian reggae and dancehall singer Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr. aka Shatta Wale was born on October 17, 1987. He made a name for himself as Bandana with the track "Bandana from Ghana", which made a big impact on Ghanaian radio stations in 2004. He then changed his name to Shatta Wale, and it took him some time to return to the forefront. Just when he thought he was going to receive the Dancehall Artist of the Year award at the VGMA Awards in 2013, it went to singer Kaakie. Disgruntled, he turned it into a song in which he insulted the organization, which earned him some notoriety and revived his career. Since then, Shatta Wale has recorded several albums, including After the Storm (2016), Reign (2018), Wonder Boy (2019), Maali (2023) and Konekt (2024). He has also enjoyed success with tracks such as "Dancehall King" (2014), awarded at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, "My Level" (2018) or "Already", a song performed in 2019 with Beyoncé and Major Lazer for the soundtrack of the film The Lion King: The Gift. He has also appeared as an actor in several films. In 2019, he broke a record by winning eleven trophies at the 3 Music Awards. In 2025, his track "On God" reached number 35 on Billboard's Afrobeats charts.
