Capdown was formed in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, in 1997 by a group of teenagers who had been playing together since the age of fourteen. The band, originally called Soap, released the EP Time for Change in 1998 on Household Name Records, and the following year they signed with the label and adopted the name Capdown, an abbreviation of Capitalist Downfall. Their debut studio album, Civil Disobedients, appeared in May 2000; the record combined punk hardcore with ska and dub influences and was later ranked 76th in NME’s list of the best albums of the decade. In 2001 the group issued Pound for the Sound, which received positive reviews from Kerrang! and earned touring opportunities with Bad Religion and Hundred Reasons. After signing to Fierce Panda Records, Capdown released the single "Act Your Rage" in 2003, which entered the UK Singles Chart at number 80, and followed with the EP New Revolutionaries. The final studio album, Wind Up Toys, was issued on 5 February 2007. Capdown disbanded after a farewell tour in 2007, with a last concert held on 7 June 2008 at the Pitz Club in Milton Keynes. The band has since performed reunion shows at Slam Dunk Festival and Rebellion Festival, maintaining a legacy within the UK punk scene.
