Anaiis

Not one to be pigeon-holed, anaiis occupies the space between different styles, influenced by the places she has lived. Growing up between continents; she moved from Toulouse to Dublin and Dakar before settling in California. She later studied at NYU before finally relocating to London to channel her energy into her music career. With a global outlook and ability to sing in multiple languages, anaiis is a child of the diaspora and uses this entirely to her advantage. Following her debut release ‘Nina’, a liberation chant and reclamation of freedom, she went on to release her transcendent project, ‘Darkness at Play’, which reflects her observations of the world, seeking hope amidst injustice, and explorations of the divine feminine as a healing force. After supporting Daniel Caesar on his U.K. tour, she delivered an empowering talk at TEDxLondonWomen and went to Brazil for a month long residency in Salvador da Bahia. Writing from an observatory lens through her experience as a young Black woman, she finally has the freedom to do it her own way, finding liberation from an industry where she was previously misunderstood. As such, she has created a body of work that is extremely personal and transparent, not being shy to show her vulnerability. With autonomy to be as creative as she wants, anaiis is moving into a space of ownership and empowerment, stepping outside the box with new ideas and new outlooks along with a new name. In just a short space of time, she has drawn praise from across the spectrum of the cultural media with features in Harper’s Bazaar, Clash Magazine, Pitchfork, gal–dem and Fader to name a few. anaiis is pushing forward and doing things on her own terms. Her latest releases include a bossa-nova inspired duet “Learn to Love” with Azekel, premiered on AFROPUNK, and her new single “vanishing” which premiered on COLORSxSTUDIOS. She releases new single ‘Juno’ on April 15th 2021.
