Novelist, born Kwadwo Quentin Kankam on 20 January 1997 in Brockley, Lewisham, is a South London MC, producer, and key figure in the UK grime scene. Emerging as a teenage prodigy, he gained attention with his rapid-fire flows, politically conscious lyrics, and self-produced beats. A founding member of The Square, he helped revive grime’s raw energy in the mid-2010s. His early collaborations with Skepta and Mumdance showcased his versatility, while his Mercury Prize-nominated 2018 debut album, Novelist Guy, solidified his reputation as an independent force. Blending grime with elements of hip-hop and UK rap, Novelist remains a voice for his generation, balancing social commentary with heavy-hitting instrumentals. He has continued to draw attention for his singles and EPs such as 4 Tha Homiez (2022) and 2025's The Riddims EP, Vol1 (South London Theme Soundtrack).
