'Fugitive' ~ the new EP ~ Out Now !
Harrowman weaves a style of contemporary folk that appeals to troubadour, roots and acoustic music lovers alike. The singer-songwriter from Surrey, UK, blends intricate guitar picking with soaring vocals and a canny ability for melodic songwriting that is as soulful as it is poignant. There are shades of Nick Drake , John Martyn and James Taylor in the guitar playing with the added use of string arrangements providing an evocative, ethereal dimension to many of the songs coming from the Harrowman stable.
Debut album ‘Rite of Way’ (2019) delivers concise storytelling and lyricism at its most urgent and compelling. Combining heartfelt ballads with sharp social commentaries and charming travelogues, the song arrangements range from delicate acoustic ballads to lush, layered ensemble pieces incorporating cello, violin and female vocal harmonies. Created in collaboration with emerging producer Compost_Mentis, ‘Rite of Way’ tugs at the heartstrings as much as it provides food for the head and soul, tackling themes of urban decay, green space loss and political disaffection as well as the struggle for identity and mental wellbeing in an increasingly fast-paced, frenetic world.
2020 follow up 'Fugitive' pushes the songwriting envelope further still, delivering a celebration of the natural world and a statement about the personal and collective concerns of inaction, lethargy and our role as a species to turn the tide on the climate crisis we all currently face.
