Catalin was born in Chisinau, in a family where music played an essential role. He studied piano for thirteen years and learned to play the guitar by himself. Catalin decided that he wanted to pursue a career as a music artist, so he joined the Music, Theatre and Fine Arts Academy in Chisinau which he graduated as an opera baritone in 2009. He also speaks Romanian, English and Russian fluently.
The year 2007 finds Catalin in a studio, recording his debut album called MegaStart. He has worked side by side with Play & Win (producers of Inna) and Marius Moga (producer of Maroon 5, Morandi and many Romanian acts). Catalin admits that it has been a tough job: “I have learnt that the release of a very good product involves a lot of work with a team of professionals. We spent endless days and nights in the studio working and choosing the best songs for this album.” By the end of the year, the album was ready and the two hit singles released were Big Brown Eyes and Veronica Demonica.
In 2008, Catalin rose to a new, somewhat personal challenge: the Eurovision Song Contest. The young artist took part and qualified for the Romanian national finals with two entries: Run Away and When We’re Together. He then decided to focus on one song only, thus performing Run Away in the final. He achieved the 3rd place in the Eurovision, a rather unusual phenomenon for a Romanian Eurovision novice. Catalin qualified for the finals of Eurovision 2009 with Stop and reinforced his position as one of the best male entertainment acts in Romania. The song ranked second in the national final.
In 2010, Catalin took up the challenge to partake in the Eurovision as the singer, as well as the composer of his entry. He was publicly acclaimed for his composition Around Around and achieved a position on the winner’s podium yet again.
Catalin’s ever-more promising performances in the Eurovision unveiled an extraordinary live performer. He managed to evolve into one of the favorite music entertainment acts on the Romanian market.
Catalin has grown over the years into a mature, complex artist. His vocal and dance skills, combined with his natural charm made him a teen icon. His status was further reinforced by his being chosen as the best Romanian male artist to represent Disney for the premiere of High School Musical 3 in Romania and hence record the Romanian version of the song Right Here, Right Now.
The young star’s popularity saw him feature in popular TV shows, such as “Dancing with the stars”, "The Voice" and "MasterChef" and various international competitions where he won just as many prizes. Catalin’s dearest award is Innovation in Music at Golden Voices of Chisinau in 2010, which he achieved with his own composition – the abovementioned Around Around.
Catalin is due to release his second album, which features the award winning track Don't Wanna Miss You. For the first single off the new album, the artist worked closely with Keo (Warner, Poland, Universal Publishing France), a renowned pop-rock producer and artist in Romania.
Don’t Wanna Miss You is a lively single through which Catalin embraces a completely different music sound, more vibrant and upbeat than his previous style. His natural baritone technique, skillfully combined with an accurate nasal voice for the higher tonalities offers a unique sound and delivery of a song. The song has been awarded a Golden Disc for its sales on iTunes (Italy).
