Stephan Eicher is Swiss singer-songwriter who was born in Münchenbuchsee in 1960. He studied music and modern composing methods at the Academy of Art in Zurich, skills which served him well in his chosen career. Eicher cites a wide range of influences acquired through listening to music during his teenage years and these include Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Patti Smith and Serge Gainsbourg. He sings in numerous languages and is equally comfortable with French, German, English, Italian and Swiss German, sometimes combining different languages within the same song.

He briefly joined his brother Martin's band Grauzone and enjoyed his first taste of chart success when the band's single 'Eisbär became a chart hit in Germany and Austria. After the demise of Grauzone, Eicher began to pursue a solo career and became popular throughout Europe with hits songs such as 'Combien de Temps' and 'Oh Ironie'. His most significant release came with album 'Engelberg', an album co-written with lyricist Philippe Dijan. 'Engelberg' spent 46 weeks in the charts and was number one in Switzerland for five weeks. During his career Eicher's songs have been covered by a diverse range of artists including Cabaret Voltaire, Flood, Vanden Plas and Eisbrecher.
