Joseph Amos Milburn, who went by Amos Milburn, was an American blues & R&B singer-pianist from Texas who made several recordings from his 1946 debut until his death following a stroke in 1980 aged 52. He started playing in Houston as a child and after military service led a 16-piece band performing in local venues. Known for his energetic jump blues style, he influenced several artists including Fats Domino. He won music awards and some of his recordings made the Billboard charts when they were re-released.
He often recorded with the Aladdin Chickenshakers. Releases include 'Amos Blues' (1946), 'Chicken Shack Boogie' (1948), 'Roomin House Boogie' (1949), 'Bad, Bad Whiskey' (1950, 'Trouble in Mind' (1952) and 'Rockin' the Boogie' (1955). Compilation albums include 'The Best of Amos Milburn: Down the Road Apiece' (1994), the box set 'Blyes, Barrelhouse & Boogie Woogie' (1996) and 'The Best of Amos Milburn' (2001).
