Born in Sarcelles on April 4, 1979, Leïla Chicot draws much of her inspiration from the musical heritage of the French West Indies. Brought up in a family of Guadeloupean and Martiniquean origin, Leïla Chicot began singing as a child. After her family returned to the West Indies, she was elected Miss Carnaval in 1996. She went on to release her first album with her group Double Jeu, which she formed alongside Christian Nara, Flam' (1996). The duo's zouk proved a big hit with the public, enough for Leïla Chicot to develop a taste for show business and decide to give up her studies to devote herself fully to music. After a second Double Jeu album, Avoué, released in 1998, the singer decided to pursue her career on her own. In 2000, she presented Excess to the public, whose zouk and R'n'B mixes instantly appealed to her audience, who turned tracks like "Ça aurait dû être moi" and "Mete Le Voile" into hits. Selling tens of thousands of copies, this album launched Leïla Chicot's career as a new zouk figure. Her status was confirmed several years later, with albums such as Renaissance in 2009 and Divinement Love in 2013, and tracks like "Tu Disais" and "Lov' Intans ", which topped the charts and earned the singer the status of "zouk diva".
