CheapShow

CheapShow is a comedy podcast all about getting the very best out of the worst! Be it Poundlands, Charity Shops, Car Boot Sales or Bargain Bins, hosts Paul Gannon & Eli Silverman poke around in the corners of the high streets and internet to find treasure in the trash. One week it could be a studio based show, the next, a live comedy event. It could even be a location report or a scripted adventure! A few things it is, however, is rude, crude, silly and drizzled in pop culture, nostalgia and plenty of verbal violence! It has guests, videos, songs, reviews, games and dares. We apologise in advance! www.thecheapshow.co.uk

(Special Guest Ash Frith) On this week’s VERY special episode of CheapShow, Paul and Eli tackle something they are not particularly comfortable talking about, nor do they have a lot of knowledge on this subject… Football! But why are they even tackling this topic, is it because of the 2026 World Cup taking place in the USA? Why, yes. It is. They’re cynically chasing a trend, but in CheapShow’s own particular way. Luckily, they have a helping hand to guide them through, as the original fair-weather co-host, Ash Frith, joins the show after a LONG absence. Over the next 90 minutes (including injury time), the thrifty threesome will explore the cult of football fandom, taste some World Cup inspired snacks, investigate the history of World Cup mascots and try to decipher the 1982 England Football Team World Cup Celebration album. Yes. A football team released a load of songs. How does it go? Well, you’ll find out in this week’s soccerific edition of the economy comedy podcast! After last week’s mega walkabout, it’s time for Eli and Paul get back to what they do best… arguing over the price of random charity shop tat. Thanks to a PO Box delivery from Ireland, the Cheap Chaps have an episode’s worth of odd crap to price up for those delicious “p’twings”. Luckily, it’s not all bric-a-brac, the PO Box also has a few things to slurp on too. There are three Japanese Fanta flavours to investigate. The only real problem is that these drinks are out of date, so will their studies be impaired by potential soda rot? However, if you think Paul and Eli are in for a rough time with those fizzy drinks, you need to wait until they get to one particular item in the Price of Shite game… I mean, how bad can a candle smell? It’s just a candle. Right? (Stereo Version) It’s finally time for Part Two of our Cambridge Tat Hunt adventure! This week, Paul and Eli stumble onto a wealth of charity shops that, frankly, becomes a little overwhelming. They don’t have all the time in the world, so the cheap chaps try to cram in as many shops as possible before they close up for the day. Hopefully, they’ll find what they need with the £10 budget they’ve been given… But who will get the most/best/worst stuff when the final evaluation arrives? As you can imagine, it’s never this easy for Paul and Eli, so in amongst all the shopping, they manage to get lost looking for a building Eli can’t shut up about, find out their train has been cancelled and, once again, discover that they may have a problem finding a private place to weigh up the spoils of their hunt. It’s another ramble that will either delight or bemuse! (Stereo Version) Back when CheapShow was only a couple of dozen or so episodes old, the economy comedy podcast was originally recorded in Cambridge, where Paul had his fill of charity shops to explore. However, despite recording there for almost two years, they’d never done a “walkabout” episode. So this week, to make up for lost time, Paul and Eli are heading back to Cambridge for a wander and a “Tat Hunt”. Not only that, but because Ep 500 will be a LIVE EVENT at the Cambridge Junction venue in August, it gives them a chance to track down and snoop about the theatre. The Tat Hunt rules are in place… They both get £10 to spend on whatever they can… Trinkets, Toys, Tracks or Textbooks, and they get to review them in next week’s conclusion. So here we are, Part One of another Tat Hunt adventure that ends up being all “rather pleasant”, which is a delightful change! It’s time to dive into another book in this week’s CheapShow! Thanks to a kind listener, Paul has gotten his hands on a book called “London Lore” by Steve Roud. It tells of the tall tales and myths of London, so the cheap chaps have a look at some places they are familiar with. They stumble on a truly nonsense poltergeist story that fails to impress, but their second story is a lot more interesting. Turns out that the famous “Pearly Kings and Queens” of the UK capital have a truly fascinating beginning, not in the East of London… but in the North? If all that reading isn’t your taste, how about some Sauce Report action? Eli’s been informed that there is a range of sauces found in B&M, that are based on Seabrooks’ crisp flavours! How good can they be? It’s up to the Sauce Professors to give them a proper taste test, JUST for you. Also, it seems all this “Content House” rubbish is getting TOO intrusive for Paul & Eli! Every now and then, Cheapshow likes to go a little “wild in the aisle” when it comes to charity shop shopping… This week, they get to put their spending skills to the test when Paul whips out a board game based on a beloved 1990s game show, Supermarket Sweep! Hosted by Dale Winton, contestants ran around a huge supermarket, hunting for items and answering food based questions. But will the board game reflect the excitement of the TV show? You probably already have a good idea on the outcome to that, in a classic Gannon’s Golden Games. Eli’s also got to sweet treats to sample, with a return to the Froth Shop. The candy store has reopened, but sadly, an all too familiar face is running the shop. To make matters worse, Paul is definitely not going to like some of the gummies on offer. It’s all going to be very disappointing, isn’t it? Oh and Eli is MEGA hung over. (Stereo Edition) Sometimes, CheapShow is inspired by the random discoveries they find in the odd corners of the internet. This week is prime example of that. Paul has discovered something called https://worldwidesidewalkjoy.com that invites people to wander around their local area, picking up and dropping off random toys and trinkets to share with strangers. It’s a cute idea, and CheapShow wants in. After a look over the website’s global map, they realise that there are four of these trinket swap boxes in London, so why not go and find them? What this leads to is a reasonably fractious walkabout episode that invokes joy, rage and confusion. It in no way leads to an argument that was so unpleasant that it had to get cut from the show. Nope. Not at all. Will CheapShow survive this week’s episode? We guess you’ll have to listen and find out! Here at CheapShow HQ, we do our best to ensure you are kept up to date with all the latest instant noodle news. This week, we bring you the BIG review YOU demanded! Eli has secured 4 very limited edition Nissin Cup Noodles. Three of these have a “chicken wing” theme, covering flavours such as Buffalo Ranch, Garlic Parmesan and Lemon Pepper. The fourth flavour is Dill Pickle, but will it live up to Eli’s high standards? If you care not for noodles, we have a few unusual vinyl record discoveries to confuse and upset. We learn about “Splodge Music” and what “punk pathetique” is via a weird punk EP and then we uncover a track that is so obscure, so unknown that we have no idea what to make of it. It’s troubling in ways we cannot fathom. Can you help? Remember a few weeks ago when Eli popped over to the USA to see family? Well, not only did he bring back a few snacks and treats (as sampled in an earlier episode), but he recorded a few audio packages from his time away. So whether Paul likes it or not (and he doesn’t like it), this week’s episode will be built on the bones of the Silverman family’s adventures. Eli’s playing clips of what he got up to in Florida and when he has his unruly clan went on a cruise ship adventure… with a free bar! This can only mean Paul is in for a rough, raucous listen… and he will be very honest about his opinions of this boozy travelogue! With Special Guest: John Rain It’s been a long time coming, but finally, John Rain from the wonderful Smersh Pod podcast is joining Paul and Eli for a 007 themed edition of CheapShow! Paul’s been hoarding a load of James Bond based bric-a-brac over the past few years in the hope that John would eventually end up on the show. As a result, the whole episode is going to be one huge Bond Price of Shite. There are books, toys, games and all sorts of random nonsense in between. John will have to defend his knowledge of Ian Fleming in a 007 Trivia Pursuit challenge and Eli is going to try and bring him down a peg or two! However, Eli has also brought along his own Bond girl and henchman, and Paul is going to have to put up with it! Oh! And there is 007 Coca Cola to try too! With Special Guest: Nick Helm The last time comedian and actor Nick Helm was on the podcast, he said he would return if we did a Pepsi special. Eli and Nick have been banging on and on and on about ruddy Cherry Pepsi Max and Paul just wants it all to go away. So Nick and Eli want a Pepsi packed episode do they? Well, Paul will make sure they’ll all be sick of the stuff by the time this (very long) recording ends! They’ve sourced flavours from across the globe to taste and review… and not only that, but Gannon has a Pepsi themed “Price of Shite” to squeeze in too! It’s another rambling, noisy, frenzied, fizzy pop infused edition of the economy comedy podcast. Hold tight, there’s burps ahead! Eli is finally back from his break in the US of A and Paul’s had a week off to try and get some of his sanity back. However, because Eli’s return is so close to the release of our weekly schedule, Paul suggests another one of their patented “real time” episodes to save him a bunch of editing! Once again, they start the clock and don’t stop for 60 minutes! Well, apart from when they stop the clock to throw in a “secret recording” and once again to collect their order from KFC! It’s a foodie episode this week and there are some truly HORRIBLE “Cheap Eats” for Paul and Eli to endure. To make matters worse, they’ve also ordered the Pickle Meal from KFC and after everything else they’ve ingested this week, this final bite may finish them off! (Stereo Version) It may have taken forever, but Paul and Eli are finally at Dering Woods in Kent for some spooky wanderings. Sadly, because it took so long, it’s already getting dark and the Cheap Chaps have a lot to do before they can think about turning around and going back to Pluckley Station. Now that they’re lost in “Screaming Woods” it’s time to have a small (poorly planned) picnic and finish off The Price of Shite. Paul has two more items, one of which should come in VERY handy once darkness falls in this truly spooky woodland. The mist is rolling in, darkness is falling, strange sounds (and people) can be heard in the distance and Eli’s lost all his stuff and is getting very ratty… And that’s all before a VERY long, VERY dark walk home. Looks like Paul and Eli are going to be VERY grumpy again. Additional music by White Bat Audio. Stereo Version It’s finally time for CheapShow to escape the confines of their usual recording space and venture out into the big wide world once again. For their first major “walkabout” adventure of 2026, Paul wants to visit the UK’s “most haunted” wood, which is situated near the equally as haunted Pluckley village in Kent… But Eli and Paul aren’t going there, they are heading to “Dering Wood” to look for something, ANYTHING spooky. It’s also been called the “Screaming Wood” but will the only screams Paul hears be the angry, frustrated and howls of his pissed off co-host? Eli is not happy getting lost in a part of the UK he doesn’t know AND he is very not happy to do it on winding country lanes. Will the Cheap Chaps ever get to their destination? Will Eli be able to guess the price of the shite Paul has also brought along? This is Part One of one of CheapShow’s most calamitous of rambles! It’s story time this week on CheapShow. It’s been a while since we’ve had a “Dollop-esque” segment and in this episode, Gannon brings along the tall tale of William Roy. In his day, he was one of the UK’s most respected psychic mediums, giving shockingly accurate predictions and personal information to some of the most powerful people in the world. However, it all came crashing down and Roy confessed all… So how did he do it? Paul digs into an old issue of The Unexplained Magazine from the early 1980s to find out about the bold life of William Roy. However, Eli Silverman fans need not fear, as he has brought a load of sauces with him too! He’s got three new discoveries to share with his co-host. There is a Friend’s themed marinara, a Mango Mint cheeky one and one made from bananas, so they could all be awesome, or ruddy awful. You’ll have to listen in and find out the results! It’s been a while since we had a good old fashioned, full on instant noodle taste test on the podcast, so it’s time to fix that problem this week. Eli has come packing some serious noodle heat with three fascinating new varieties to munch on. We’re sure you will devour their expert opinions. There is a creamy curry one, a pork broth comfort snack and a chili chicken treat, each prepared differently. It’s Noodle Heaven! Just in case things become too much for you, Paul manages to squeeze in a quick new Tomy game called “Spin-fessions” that sparks a few interesting true stories. Oh, it’s a proper tasty pod… and some old faces reappear for some weird, nefarious reason. There is some old school, good old fashioned, classic CheapShow action this week on the podcast! Paul is very excited to share his latest “Gannon’s Golden Games” segment with a game he has been after for a while… The Colour Of Money. Although it’s based on an ITV game show, you’d be hard pressed to remember it OR care, but is the electronic board game as thrilling as the TV show wanted it to be? Paul and Eli will find out. If all that isn’t enough, we open up a new casefile from our “Tales from the Shop Floor” cabinet to share a story that promises to deliver that classic CheapShow horror, disgust and amusement. And if all that isn’t enough, they throw in a few new characters too… Although you may wish they’d throw them out again soon after! After last week’s book heavy content, Eli and Paul decide to delight your ears this week by revealing their weird little 7 inch vinyl treats! These musical curios will make you question everything you know… Well, maybe not, but they are definitely “interesting”. CheapShow peaks back into the 1970s and 80s with a selection of tracks that tickle the nostalgia bone. There is some cute New Wave “computer game” based pop music from New Zealand, The Highway Code as sung by some A Cappella vocal group, an awful ballad taken from a forgotten Pirate movie and a flexidisc containing the familiar tones of kids TV favourite, Johnny Ball! Oh… And we have a new food segment on the show now too. Apparently. Things have been a bit full on lately, so let’s all just calm down and retreat to Paul’s Book Nook, where he stores the finest charity shop tomes. There’s been a bit of “behind the scenes” drama brewing with a few of the CheapShow Characters, so Eli is more than happy to wander down to his co-host’s cosy chamber to read a few books by the fireside. Gannon’s found a load of interesting books to show off and can’t wait to do so. It starts with a bit of a Fortean trip as the cheap chaps dive into the pages of “World Famous Weird News Stories”, then they talk too long about the various Red Dwarf publications that came out of the 1990s and finally discuss if the “Roger Moore & The Crimefighters” book can be sued for false advertising! As the nights remain cold, why not wrap up warm in the CheapShow Book Nook!? Although we don’t look for items from Ali Express, Wish etc, we don’t mind if our trusted audience members send us stuff from those online hives of questionable items. However, sometimes there is too much of a good thing… Or too much of a bad thing… as Paul & Eli are gifted a box that may overwhelm their price guessing senses in this Craptacular Ali Express Edition of The Price of Shite. There are over 20 (!!) knick-knacks, bits of bric-a-brac and weird curios for the Cheap Chaps to (somehow) price up for those illustrious “p’twings”! Who will come out on top, and who will be buried under a pile of crap… and does it matter? Also, if all that wasn’t enough, it seems like a CheapShow side character has been promised their own segment, which is absolutely not going to happen! It’s one of those episodes where Paul and Eli are going to be doing a LOT of munching this week as they have a lot of food to munch on. In fact, it’s quite the potato heavy episode as most of what passes the CheapShow table is tuba root based! There are two new flavours of Walker’s crisps to sample, both of them promising new delights for your tastebuds. What will come out on top, the Sticky Teriyaki or the Masala Chicken? It’s the Cheap Chaps time to find out. After gobbling their way through all that, they’ll next tackle Seabrook’s new range of oven ready chips, based on the crisp company’s most recognizable flavours… Cheese and Onion and “Beefy”. If all that isn’t enough, Eli has discovered a new confectionary with an unusual flavour… KFC chicken? Yea. It’s an odd one alright! It’s time to get our “Price of Shite” on in our first game of 2026! To make things a little more interesting, Paul and Eli decide to have a “face-off” edition of the classic tat pricing game. Paul has bought 3 items and so has Eli, and they will need to use all their wit, intelligence and cunning to guess the cost of each other’s charity shop discoveries. One of them will find a few truly tasty bits of tat that will amaze and amuse… the other kinda tossed it off and just went to the charity shops near where he lives. No guesses which one is which. However, who will win? That’s all that matters really, those much coveted p’twings! There is a lot at stake (well, not really!) and once again, this relatively simple game will be made into a convoluted, angry pointless conflict! It’s CheapShow time! This week, we review some gummy snacks, a Nissin special edition instant noodle pot with a pumpkin spice twist, a Pepsi gingerbread concoction, listen to a few vinyl discoveries ranging from Disney disco to BBC story time adventures, and we also have to time to cram in a book that alleges to show you how to cheat at cards! It’s a packed show – and we promise it’s just as good as all those other comedy podcasts that you’ve heard about. Honest. It’s a NEW YEAR and time for a NEW(ish) episode of CheapShow to see in 2026! So that Paul can take another week off from editing (poor tired lamb!), we’re dipping into our Patreon pocket and pulling out a podcast usually reserved for our supporters! As is custom for our “first episode of the year”, it’s time to enjoy another Nightbussin’ adventure as Paul and Eli venture into more nocturnal night bus nonsense. This week, the route is the N89 that starts in Erith, far east of London, and in towards Trafalgar Square over a staggering 21 miles! It’s the longest night bus in London and is also the route you basically have to leave London to start. As ever with Nightbussin’ it’s about whether or not Paul and Eli can get to the starting point in time and without having a meltdown. Once the journey begins, it’s all in real time, so soak up the night time ambience, take a seat at the front on the top deck and join the cheap chaps on another Nightbussin’ romp! Ding Ding! As 2025 prepares its end, Paul and Eli turn their attention to the big yuletide knees up… The Office Christmas Party! For their 7th boozy do, Paul wants to do something a little different, at least to start! They head out to a little village pub and get a few drinks in early, before attempting to get back to “La Maison Hantee Sur La Colline A Harrow” for the party proper. To make things a little more classy than usual, Gannon’s hired a (very expensive) Butler to serve the drinks and snacks. Although “Jarvis” seems lovely enough, Eli is horribly embarrassed by Paul’s bullying treatment of the poor old man! It’s the epic (near 3 hour!!) final episode of the year packed with dodgy booze, weird Xmas themed snacks, trivia stuffed Christmas Crackers, a few boxes full of amazing presents, rants, arguments, laughs and a healthy dose of scatological nonsense! Get cosy, turn on your Christmas Tree lights and join Paul & Eli for their mammoth Office Christmas Party 2025!! See you next year!
