Biografía

Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein are Texas-based electronic musicians and film composers best known for their soundtrack work for the popular Netflix series Stranger Things (since 2016). The duo first came to prominence in 2009 as one-half of electronic music quartet S U R V I V E with Adam Jones and Mark Donica. S U R V I V E formed in Austin, Texas and began writing and recording horror movie score – influenced electronic music. After issuing a series of independent releases, they were hired to score several independent films including The Guest (2014). Inspired by the synth-heavy work of the band, TV and film writers, producers, and directors Matt and Ross Duffer – better known as the Duffer Brothers – approached Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein about composing the score for their Netflix series Stranger Things. The music that the duo provided for the soundtrack was heavily influenced by 1980s horror film soundtracks, especially the work of John Carpenter. The series became a huge sensation and the soundtrack to the first season became hugely popular across all digital platforms, eventually being released in physical formats due to popular demand. Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein went on to score the second and third seasons, earning critical accolades and winning an Emmy Award and two Grammy Award nominations. They then went on to score Native Sun, Butterfly, Spheres, Valley of the Boom, and more productions. They began work on the soundtrack to the fourth season of Stranger Things in 2020.
