Biografía

Spanish singer Melodía Ruiz Gutiérrez (October 12, 1990), professionally known as Melody, rose to fame as a child prodigy with the 2001 summer hit "El Baile del Gorila." Born in the city of Dos Hermanas in Seville, she learned to sing and dance before she could even talk. She was discovered after her father, a musician who played in a local rumba-pop band, sent a demo to flamenco producer El Fary. Her studio debut, De Pata Negra, appeared in 2001 and reached Number 2 on the Spanish charts thanks to the massive success of its chart-topping lead single "El Baile del Gorila." By the end of the year, the album had achieved platinum certification in Spain. It was released in the US and Latin America in 2002 and received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Children's Album. Following the release of the albums Muévete (2002) and T.Q.M. (2003), Melody's music started moving progressively toward a teenage audience on 2004's Melodía, which debuted at Number 15 in Spain. After disappearing from the public eye for nearly four years, she returned in 2008 with Los Buenos Días, an album that showcased her musical evolution and artistic maturity. Later that year, Melody reached the semifinals of the Spanish national pre-selection for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Amante de la Luna," recorded in collaboration with the flamenco dance group Los Vivancos. Preceded by the single "Ten Cuidaíto Conmigo," her sixth full-length Mucho Camino Por Andar arrived in 2014. Subsequently, the singer advanced to the finals of the reality show Tu Cara Me Suena and remained an active presence on the Spanish pop scene with singles like "In My Mind" (2015), "Parapapá" (2018), and "Rúmbame" (2019).
