Glam rock band The Darkness channelled the late-70s hair-metal bands into a chart invading pop homage. With an air of Spinal Tap about their manner, the flamboyant glory of third single 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' shot them to number two in the UK, paving the way for the all-conquering, chart-topping debut album 'Permission to Land' in 2003.
The huge success continued with the festive single 'Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End)', a sell-out tour and a headlining slot at the 2004 Reading and Leeds Festivals. Despite the top ten singles 'One Way Ticket' and 'Is It Just Me?', their second album 'One Way Ticket to Hell... and Back Again' in 2005 failed to recapture the same level of success and with lead singer Justin Hawkins checking into rehab suffering from alcohol addiction, the band split in 2006.
In 2011 the band members got back together, playing festivals around the UK. They released brand new single 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us' followed by their third album 'Hot Cakes' and opened for Lady Gaga on her Born This Way tour. 'Last of Our Kind', their fourth album, was released in 2015 followed by another Christmas single 'I Am Santa'. Their fifth album 'Pinewood Smile' was released in 2017 with the lead single 'All the Pretty Girls'.
