The Swiss pianist, composer and songwriter Christiane Mathé was born in Freiburg (Germany) and grew up in a family of musicians. She started to play the piano at the age of six years old. She graduated in Switzerland at the Musikhochschule Basel with the concert diploma for piano, though she was always being interested in Jazz and composing her own music. Beside the piano she studied saxophone and Jazz singing.
The album with piano music by F. Chopin from 1989 was her first publication which she produced and financed by herself as a very young artist. After this production she got invited to the Bavarian Radio to record 5 albums with piano music by composers of the 19th and 20th century and they were published by Swann(Koch) Universal. She played piano recitals in prestigious festivals like the “Berliner Festspielwochen”, in the “Münchner Philharmonie”, the “international Ruhrfestspiele”, Pianissimo 2001 in Sofia, as well in Hamburg, Köln, Rotterdam… und many other European metropoles of culture.
Beside her career in classic piano music she always performed with various Jazz bands and writes and performs her own songs. She has toured eastern and western Europe as a soloist and in jazz combos and wan a special price, as a newcomer, for songwriting in 2002, given by the Bavarian Radio and “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.
Nowadays Christiane Mathé lives with her family in Switzerland.
