Death by Rock and Roll

En 2008, l'actrice Taylor Momsen, connue pour son rôle de Jenny Humphrey dans la série Gossip Girl, décide de laisser libre cours à son amour de la musique. Elle forme un premier groupe, vite dissous, avant de recruter Ben Phillips (guitare), Mark Damon (basse) et Jamie Perkins (batterie) pour former The Pretty Reckless en 2009.

Jouant un rock à gros son, héritier du bon vieux hard rock comme du rock alternatif US, The Pretty Reckless sort en juin 2010 son premier EP. The Pretty Reckless contient quatre titres, dont « Make Me Wanna Die » astucieusement offert en téléchargement aux fans. « Make Me Wanna Die » devient rapidement un tube, aidé par sa présence dans le film Kick-Ass avec Brad Pitt.

Classé n° 1 des ventes rock en Grande Bretagne et n° 16 des ventes générales, « Make Me Wanna Die » est le tremplin idéal pour le premier album de The Pretty Reckless. Conjuguant charme et fougue, Taylor Momsen surprend sur Light Me Up, propulsant l'album à la sixième place des ventes anglaises. Sorti début septembre 2010, Light Me Up condense parfaitement la flamme d'une Taylor Momsen dont le niveau et l'enthousiasme font mieux que surprendre. Taylor Momsen et sa bande connaissent un nouveau succès dans les classements rock aux Etats-Unis et en Angleterre avec la chanson « Heaven Knows » en 2013.

The Pretty Reckless est prêt à sortir début 2014 son deuxième album avec Going to Hell. Une fois de plus que ce soit dans les clips ou sur la pochette du disque, Taylor Momsen n'hésite pas à ajouter le piquant de sa superbe plastique à un rock des plus énergiques. Dans l'album suivant, Who You Selling For, paru en 2016, la jeune artiste aspire à un peu plus de profondeur et s'inspire à la fois des difficultés qu'elle a traversées, et notamment un sérieuse dépression, mais également la mythologie musicale, à travers par exemple la vie de Robert Johnson.
