“Many have recorded and released good quality albums that explore various incarnations of instrumental progressive rock, and this brazilian band is another addition to that list” – Olav M Bjornsen, ProGGnosis.
“Acid, psychedelic and progressive” – that is Ultranova, a brazilian quartet from the Amazon (Belém/Brazil), formed by Thiago Albuquerque (piano/synth), Daniel Leite (electric guitar), Henrique Penna (drums) and Príamo Brandão (bass) that replaced the former bassist Mario Neto. The idea was to create a band with a unique sonority, as their own identity, without departing from the style to which they were identified in artists like Emerson, Lake & Palmer, King Crimson, Yes and Pink Floyd. They began to stand out in 2012, and from then on the band started to perform at festivals and events sharing stages with renowned brazilian artists such as Hermeto Pascoal, Bacamarte, Egberto Gismonti and Violeta de Outono.
“Orion”, Ultranova’s debut album, was released in May/2017 by the record company Rock Symphony (Rio de Janeiro/Brazil) – that released and distributed some big progressive rock names in Brazil, such as Violeta de Outono, Focus, Le Orme, Nektar and Pendragon; and Musea Records (France) – the label even has exclusive distribution of Discipline Global Mobile (King Crimson), Camel Productions (Camel) and Classic Rock Legends (Uriah Heep, Van der Graaf Generator and Genesis). Soon the album begun to be feature prominently by the media, and the track ‘Orion’ was named one of 2017’s bests songs, by ProgRock.com, so the band appeared on the list together with King Crimson, Steven Wilson, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Big Big Train and IQ.
Actually the band is working on the recordings of a new album, and released two singles named “Samsara” (2019) and “Odisseia para Sirius” (2022).
