Jonathan Kweku Awote-Mensah (born March 27, 1992 in Newham, England) known professionally as Jae5, is a British-Ghanaian producer and engineer. Hailing from a musical family who introduced him to a range of R&B, hip-hop as well as Ghanaian music, Mensah studied production and engineering with APE Media, joining his uncle’s production company JOAT Music Group, producing acclaimed mixtape The 15th Day. In 2017, Mensah began collaborating with a range of artists, including J Hus, producing the hit single “Did You See”, which reached number 10 on the charts and was certified platinum. In 2018 he worked with British rappers Geko and Young T & Bugsey, as well as producing afroswing collective NSG’s successful single “Options”, followed by multi-platinum 2019 singles by British musician Dave, “Location” and “Disaster” earning him a MOBO Award in 2020 for Best Producer. Following this success, Mensah produced afrobeat album Twice as Tall by Nigerian singer Burna Boy, earning him a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album in 2021, with the album peaking at number 1 on the US Billboard World Albums chart. His debut single “Dimension”, featuring British MC Skepta and Nigerian artist Rema, was released in March 2021, reuniting with Dave and featuring Nigerian Afro-fusion singer BNXN the following year to release “Propeller” on July 29, 2022.
