1987
On the 17th of October 1987, Nelisa Ntshakaza gave birth to her 2nd born son in St Mary's Hospital, uMthatha, Eastern Cape. She went on to name him Yanga Sakhumzi Ntshakaza. Born to a teacher (mom) and an insurance broker (dad), Yanga thrived in arts and culture from an early age. He won Gold awards at Eisteddfods for visual and performance art and was given a lead role in his school play at Grade 4. Yanga developed a love for music through his father who would regularly play his RNB/Soul favourites such as Teddy Pendegrass, Barry White and Luther Vandross. Yanga's older brother would be the one to introduce him to Hip Hop, together they memorized Eminem's (also born on the 17th October) debut album. This was when the hip hop spark was ignited and Yanga would go on to become the most important hip hop entity of this generation. Now known as Yanga Chief.
