Bittersweet, my debut EP is out now! ♥
Rhiannon Rodriguez moves fluidly between mediums but, at her core, she’s a storyteller. The 19-year-old singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist crafts bedroom pop with the detail of an animator sketching their universe into existence — when she set out to create her debut EP, Bittersweet, she built color palettes to match each track before writing a note. Yes, she infuses her work with soulful charm, singer-songwriter grit, and striking production. And her lyrics navigate love and loss with the ease and openness of youth, while her lithe tone shifts to meet every mood. But what Rhiannon aims for is something more holistic: world-building. That multi-sensory, DIY approach runs through her DNA. The daughter of renegade filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, she grew up in Texas surrounded by art in nearly every form. She recalls car rides with her father, whizzing past the world blaring ’80s rock, and annual holiday karaoke at her tías’ insistence. At 9 years old, she sold her first song — to her dad, for $20, but he used it in a short. More recently she scored her first songwriting credit in the 2023 Spy Kids reboot, which shook something loose — the desire to bring her own story to life. She began sharing covers online while quietly crafting her debut, from the EP and single artwork to the concept that binds it all together. “Sure, ‘Jack of all trades is a master of none,’” Rhiannon says, “but people never say the second part of that expression: ‘but it’s oftentimes better than a master of one.’”
