Extended versions of my nature sound recordings 🌱
Charles Rose is a sound hunter and audionaturalist. He first discovered field recording in 2019 during a trip to Norway. There, he immersed himself in the soundscapes of southern Norway and later composed Geiranger Fjord, his first piece created entirely from sounds gathered in the field. Over time, his practice evolved. Rather than recording only as raw material for music, he has come to appreciate the act of listening itself, uncovering the richness of the living world through his walks. Inspired by the work of Bernie Krause, he turned more deliberately toward audionaturalism. Charles began experimenting with new recording techniques, even building his own acoustic devices to capture the almost inaudible sounds of trees and insects. From this approach grew Chasseur de sons (“Sound Hunter”), a project combining field recordings with on-site visuals, shared on social media to raise awareness of the richness of the natural world and invite others to rediscover nature through listening.
