Albert George Hibbler, born on August 16, 1915, in Tyro, Mississippi, was an American baritone vocalist who sang with Duke Ellington's orchestra before achieving success as a solo artist. Blind from birth, Hibbler began his musical journey at the Arkansas School for the Blind and later performed locally in Little Rock. He joined Jay McShann’s band in 1942 and subsequently became part of Duke Ellington's orchestra in 1943, replacing Herb Jeffries. With Ellington, Hibbler featured on notable standards such as "Do Nothin' Til You Hear From Me" (1944). He won the Esquire New Star Award in 1947. Hibbler left Ellington's band in 1951 and began recording with various labels, including Norgran and Decca. His solo career highlights include "Unchained Melody" (1955), which reached Number 3 on the US pop chart and sold over one million copies. He died on April 24, 2001, in Chicago.
