Constantin-Nicolae Silvestri, born in 1913 in Bucharest, Romania, was a Romanian conductor and composer. He began playing the piano and organ before the age of six and made his public debut as a pianist at ten. Silvestri's breakthrough came in 1930 when he made his debut conducting the Bucharest Radio Symphony Orchestra. He later assumed the post of Principal Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Notable recordings include Edward Elgar's Overture in the South (Alassio) and Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony. Silvestri received a First Prize from the Charles Cros Academy for Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 and the Grand Prix du Disque for George Enescu's Dixtuor for Winds. He died in 1969 in London.
