Susan Voelz, born Susana Maria Voelz in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, is an American musician, vocalist, violinist, and composer. She began playing the violin at a young age and later graduated from Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington with degrees in English and Violin. Voelz moved to Austin, Texas, where she joined the alternative rock band Poi Dog Pondering as a fiddler for their debut album, contributing to 13 albums with the group. She has also released solo albums such as 13 Ribs (1993) and Summer Crashing (1995), and composed film scores, including the Peabody Award-winning score for the Frontline television series The Lost Children of Rockdale County and The Merchants of Cool. Voelz has also collaborated with numerous artists, including John Mellencamp and Alejandro Escovedo.
