RVBY MY DEAR is the “spine-tingling quasi-pop” project of Gabbi Coenen, a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist originally from Perth, Western Australia, now based in Los Angeles. Coming 3 years after the release of her debut album Waiting, “Black Moon” is RVBY MY DEAR’s first single since moving to LA and reestablishing herself as an independent solo artist. Progressing from her rock band roots in Brooklyn NY and deepening her working relationship with renowned producer Andrew Lappin (whose recent successes include producing the critically-acclaimed “Fatigue” by L’Rain), “Black Moon” sees vocalist/bassist and songwriter Gabbi Coenen reconnect with the instrument that got her started in music – the piano.
A dreamy noir-inspired ode to the late-night scroll, heavily influenced by trip-hop icons Portishead, Air and James Blake, “Black Moon” features Gabbi’s signature haunting vocals, atmospheric beats and melancholy piano arpeggios. The lyrics “forget living life, I’m killing time tonight” describe the inescapable allure of endlessly doom-scrolling, as we muddle our way through a seemingly never-ending isolation, desperate to find any form of connection while ignoring those closest to us.
Influenced by Portishead, Daughter and Massive Attack, RVBY MY DEAR's debut album Waiting was released on digital and vinyl by Villainy Records in May 2019. It was included in Trip-Hop Nation’s 50 Best Albums of 2019 list, and the singles “Try”, “Cycles” and “Draw” have been featured by indie tastemakers such as The Line of Best Fit, The Deli Magazine (Artist of the Month May 2019), and Happy Mag.
