Kurt Swinghammer is a Canadian singer-songwriter and visual artist based in Toronto. He taught himself to play the guitar and produced his first multi-track recording of experimental music while attending the Ontario College of Art. In 1984, after moving to Toronto, he began performing his songs on acoustic guitar with effect pedals and independently released six album-length cassettes from 1984 to 1988. His breakthrough came in 1990 with PoMo A GoGo through indie label Fringe Product, which featured musicians including Glenn Milchem and Holly Cole. Swinghammer's subsequent albums include Remote (1999), a collaboration with Andy Stochansky, Vostok 6 (1999), Black Eyed Sue (2001), Augusta (2004) and Turpentine Wind (2011). He has also composed extensively for film and TV, including the theme music for Citytv’s MediaTelevision (1991). His visual art is represented in the permanent collection of the Canada Council Art Bank.
