OPEN ARMS are an essential pop-rock band hailing from Walsall, just outside of Birmingham in the West Midlands. Composed of Frontman Ben Farmer, Guitarist Sam Barratt and Drummer and percussionist Drew Peters, the three members met during School in 2015 and shared a common passion of performing. Having started to write music together, they were quickly validated by BBC WM, receiving airplay for their critically acclaimed debut single ‘Telescope’, a song that immediately established OPEN ARMS as a musical force to be reckoned with.
Amalgamating addictive anthemic-pop with chic dance-rock, Birmingham’s OPEN ARMS have independently released 3 EP’s, Sunflowers (2018), Rushing Cars and Symphonies (2021) and Colours (2022) which would see the band release a plethora of anthemic singles, all of which receiving regional, national and international airplay.
During 2023, a new musical era was established. The track ‘Let’s Just Leave It’ (taken from the at the time unreleased 4th and final EP Kick The Habit) would bring the opportunity for an interview on the BBC WM Breakfast show to promote the single, having already received the BBC WM ‘Track of the week’ in 2022 for their single ‘Wherever I Go’.
Presenter of the BBC Radio WM Breakfast show, Rakeem Omar said of the band:
“The music is so great! The sound, the production value! ‘Wherever I Go’, even from the opening two seconds, I could feel it from there. That was my track of the week last year, and I can’t and don’t have favourites… but it’s up there with one of the best we’ve had as my track of the week. And that’s not just coming from myself, there were people who’ve come back to me to say ‘Gosh, that track is really good’...”
Having won multiple live music awards, including Birmingham’s Battle of The Bands which saw the band supporting Lemar, Musical Youth, Lulu and Peter Andre on the Main Stage of the Solihull Summer Festival, and Selston’s Unsigned Artist of the year, OPEN ARMS also made it to the Semi Finals of the Hot Vox New Blood competition 2023, competing for a slot at the Isle Of Wight music festival, succeeding against thousands of artists and bands across the UK.
2023 also saw a show of recognition and support from HMV, who invited OPEN ARMS to perform in stores across multiple locations in the UK. Having witnessed their live show, HMV said:
“What a performance! The atmosphere the guys created in store was incredible and the music was outstanding. Powerful, uplifting and fun, every song had people flocking into the store to check out the show. These guys are professionals both on and off the stage and we can’t wait to have them back for another show."
