Jean Marc Tola (JMT) is a French producer, composer, and music creator born in Marseille in 1969. Influenced by hip-hop pioneers such as IAM, Massilia Sound System, NTM, Wu-Tang Clan, KRS-One, and Public Enemy, he developed a strong musical identity blending classic hip-hop culture with modern production techniques.
Passionate about technology from an early age, he discovered computers in 1981 and began creating Computer-Aided Music in 1987 on an Amiga. Through years of experimentation with sampling, time-stretching, and sound design, he built a rich and personal sonic universe.
In the 1990s he founded the group La Cinquième Colonne in Vienne, France, releasing the albums Colonne V (1996) and Des mots… (1997). After years of live performances and studio work, he expanded his activities through collaborations and later worked as a manager and booker for several emerging artists.
Exploring multiple musical worlds—including hip-hop, jazz, funk, reggae, and electronic music—JMT returned in 2016 with a new wave of compositions shaped by decades of experience. He now writes and produces all of his music, bringing a distinctive style to every project.
Since 2017, he has continued developing new collaborations with rappers and artists from diverse backgrounds. In 2026, he also became the agent of @Jahkasa.
