Thanks to successive generations of old Moroccan families whose lineage goes right back to the Spain of three cultures, certain Sufi-inspired Zaouia have been able to preserve an Arabo-Andalusian tradition in their music, both sacred and secular. The « The Ensemble Ibn Arabi » has taken up the challenge of reviving music from the heritage in the Siddiaqia Zaouia, tucked away in the heart of the Casbah in Tangier – no easy task in musical, aesthetic or philosophical terms, but the result is a hauntingly beautiful album, singular and unforgettable.
