Prudence Johnson (born c. 1952) is an American folk and jazz singer from Moose Lake, Minnesota. Johnson graduated from Hamline University before co-founding the vocal jazz trio Rio Nido in the early 1970s. The group recorded three albums, including I Like to Riff (1978) and Voicings (1986). Johnson began a solo career with the album Little Dreamer (1984), which received a Grammy Award nomination in 1992. Subsequent solo recordings include Vocals (1987), Songs of Greg Brown (1991), Moon Country (2002), and Peru (2006). Johnson received a McKnight Fellowship and staged the production A Girl Named Vincent. In 2005, Johnson directed and performed in the musical Ten November. Film credits include roles in the features A River Runs Through It (1992) and A Prairie Home Companion (2006).
