Okka von der Damerau, a German mezzo-soprano born in Hamburg, began her career after studying voice at Rostock and Freiburg. From 2006 to 2010, she was part of the fixed vocal ensemble at the State Opera Hanover. In 2010, von der Damerau joined the Bavarian State Opera, gaining recognition for her dramatic roles, particularly in operas by Richard Wagner. Her debut as Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera and performances at the Bayreuth Festival, Chicago Lyric Opera, Vienna State Opera, and Stuttgart State Theatre further solidified her reputation. Von der Damerau's concert repertoire includes works by Arnold Schönberg, Gustav Mahler, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Richard Wagner. She received the Special Jury Prize at the 5th International Singing Competition for Wagner Voices in Venice (2006) and the Munich Opera Festival Prize (2012).
