Los Rugar, a Norteño sax group hailing from Ecatepec de Morelos, Estado de México, was formed in 2001 by Ruperto Ruiz Ruiz and his sons, César Ruíz García (bajo sexto and lead vocals), Antonio Ruíz García (bass and vocals), Juan Oscar Ruíz García (drums), Eliezer Ruíz García (accordion and vocals), Omar Ruíz García (saxophone), and Juan Oscar Jr. (congas). With a unique style heavily influenced by the saxophone sounds of San Luis Potosí, they have quickly become a favorite across several Mexican states, including San Luis Potosí, Chihuahua, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Querétaro, and their home state of Mexico. Known for their skillful interpretation of norteño music with saxophone, particularly in the huapango genre, Los Rugar have earned the title "Los Reyes del Huapango." Their discography features standout tracks such as "El Pistolero," "Huapango Flor de Piña," "Son del Muerto," "Huapango la Vaquilla Colorada," and "El Olotito," which have all contributed to their growing popularity. In 2018, they released their debut album Cortinas Guindas, which was followed by a handful of live LPs and the album Que Se Arme la Fiesta in 2020. The following year, the group suffered the loss of their manager and founder, Ruperto Ruiz Ruiz, and bass player Antonio Ruiz García. Despite these tragic events, Los Rugar continued to solidify their place as a prominent force in the Norteño sax genre through albums like El Viejón de Oro (2021), A Bailar con los Rugar (2022), and Puras Viejitas (2023).
