Nova Mob was an American alternative rock band founded in 1989 by former Hüsker Dü drummer Grant Hart. The group, named after characters from William S. Burroughs' novel Nova Express, initially consisted of Hart on vocals and guitar, Tommy Rey on drums, Kevin Lavaly on guitar, and Tom Merkl on bass. After releasing their debut maxi-single "Admiral of the Sea" in 1991, Nova Mob gained attention with their first full-length album, The Last Days Of Pompeii, released in 1991. The album was well-received for its melodic and pompous sound, reminiscent of Hart's previous work with Hüsker Dü. In 1994, the band released another album titled Nova Mob, featuring collaborations with Johnny Clegg and his horn section. Despite critical acclaim, internal issues led to the band's disbandment in 1997 following a final tour.
