Barbara Pittman, born in 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee, was an American singer known for her contributions to rockabilly music. Growing up in poverty, she was influenced by big bands and blues. Her career began when local DJ Sleepy Eyed John procured an engagement for her to tour with Lash LaRue’s Western Show initially as a babysitter before becoming a singer. She recorded a demo of "Playing for Keeps" at the Cotton Club in West Memphis, which caught the attention of Sam Phillips. Her first single, "I Need a Man" / "No Matter Who's to Blame", was released under the name “Barbara Pitman.” She later signed with Phillips International and released hits like "Two Young Fools in Love". In the 1960s, she moved to California and contributed to film soundtracks. The rockabilly revival of the 1980s brought renewed interest. Pittman passed away from heart failure in 2005 in Memphis. Notable posthumous releases include The Hits Collection, Vol. 9 (2010).
