Shahryar Mazgani, known professionally as Mazgani, was born in Iran in 1974 and is an Iranian-Portuguese singer-songwriter. In 1979, following the Iranian Revolution, he emigrated to Portugal with his family. The French magazine Les Inrockuptibles named him one of the best 20 new European artists in 2005. His debut album Song of the New Heart was released in 2007 and received critical acclaim. In 2009, Mazgani's EP Tell the People, produced by Pedro Gonçalves of Dead Combo, was released internationally under the title Ladies and Gentlemen introducing… Mazgani alongside five tracks from his debut album. He came third in the International Songwriting Competition with "Somewhere Beneath This Sky". His second album, Song of Distance (2011), reached number 17 on the Portuguese charts. In 2013, he released Common Ground, produced by John Parish and featuring Mick Harvey, which topped the iTunes Portugal chart at number 2.
