Matheus Josephus "Thé" Lau (1952–2015) was a Dutch rock musician and writer born in Bergen. He began his career as a guitarist for various groups, including Neerlands Hoop Express, before founding the band The Scene in 1979. Serving as lead vocalist and guitarist, Lau achieved significant fame with hit songs such as “Blauw” and “Iedereen is van de wereld”. After leaving the group in 2003 to perform the Tempel der liefde tour with Jan-Peter Bast, Lau reunited with The Scene in 2007. In 2010, his collaboration with Lange Frans, “Zing voor me”, reached Number 1 on the Dutch charts. Lau was also a prolific writer, debuting with the story collection De sterren van de hemel in 2000 and publishing the novel Hemelrijk in 2004. Following a diagnosis in 2013, Lau died of throat cancer in Amsterdam on June 23, 2015.
