Amparo Ochoa was a Mexican singer and teacher born as María Amparo Ochoa Castaños on 29 September 1946 in Costa Rica, Sinaloa. She achieved professional recognition as a figure of the Nueva canción movement, winning a local contest in 1965 with the track “Hermosísimo lucero” (1965). In 1969, she relocated to Mexico City and won a radio competition on XEW before enrolling at the National School of Music at UNAM. Her recording career began with the debut studio recording De la mano del viento (1971). She performed across Mexico, Latin America, Europe, and the Caribbean, earning the title “La Voix du Mexique”. Her discography includes the studio recordings Cancionero de la Intervención Francesa (1973), Yo pienso que a mi pueblo (1978), and Corridos y canciones de la revolución mexicana (1983). Ochoa died in February 1994 in Culiacán. Her discography includes the posthumous studio recordings Raíz viva (1995) and Boleros (2000).
