Def FX was an Australian electronic rock band formed in Sydney in 1990 by keyboardist Sean Lowry. The group included Martyn Basha on bass guitar, Blake Gardner on lead guitar, and Fiona Horne on lead vocals. Their debut release, the four-track EP Water, was released in June 1991 via Phantom Records and featured the song "Surfers of the Mind", which gained national radio airplay. The band's first album, Light Speed Collision, was released in November 1992. For their United States releases and touring, they used the name Definition FX to avoid confusion with similarly named groups. Their second album, Baptism (1993), is a compilation of earlier EPs. Def FX's third album, Ritual Eternal (1995), introduced experimental elements. Their fourth and final album, Majick, was released in mid-1996 and peaked at Number 21 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The band dissolved in April 1997. Def FX were nominated for several ARIA Music Awards, including Best Independent Release for Water (1992) and Baptism (1993).
