Mechanical Poet was a Russian progressive metal ensemble formed in 2002 in Moscow. Led by composer and multi-instrumentalist Lex Plotnikoff, the group performed concept albums in the post-prog and symphonic metal genres. The band released its first EP, Handmade Essence, in 2003 and signed with the label Aural Music. Its debut studio recording, Woodland Prattlers, appeared in 2004. In 2007, the ensemble made its live debut and released the studio recordings Creepy Tales for Freaky Children and the double album Who Did It to Michelle Waters?. The group released Eidoline: The Arrakeen Code in 2008, a concept work based on the Dune series by Frank Herbert. The album was named the best sci-fi/fantasy concept album of 2008 by Mir Fantastiki magazine. The ensemble became inactive following a final performance on June 7, 2009. Plotnikoff released music under aliases including Luna Damien and Mistland Prattlers before his death on June 28, 2022.
