Penetula is an indie pop/rock band from Amsterdam, founded by Robin Verkaik and Guido Vrouwe. The two friends have been playing together for over 20 years, performing in their own bands State of Eye, Dog Called Phenix, Beat the Ambush, and many undercover sessions. It was time for a new adventure. COVID, joblessness, and a screaming heart proved the ideal combination to work hard and tirelessly on an album from home in 2021. They played the album largely themselves, with some fantastic contributions from Joost Kroon (New Cool Collective, Sven Hammond), Bauke Bakker (Her Majesty) on drums, and Len van de Laak (Navarone) on keyboards.
At the end of 2021, they entered the studio with Len van de Laak to mix the album, and after that, it was a matter of patience. Patience until COVID was over, patience to be ready, and to form the right band to play live. That patience is no longer necessary. With the addition of their friends Chris van der Meer, Ulrich de Jesus, and Jasper de Haan, the band is complete.
In 2023, they'll release their music and play shows. Live, they'll combine their new songs with the best they've created over the past 20 years. A rollercoaster of emotions, a journey from then to now. The new adventure has begun!
